What's the weather like in Sydney around May? I know May is heading into the winter season and it won't be that hot so i'd like to make sure i have enough warm clothes too. I'm a female if that helps. Should i just bring a few light cardigans, jeans, "light" pjs, a light jacket, etc? I was in Sydney in November and it was quite chilly - i ended up wearing the only cardigan i brought with me for 2 weeks!
May is usually quite a bit cooler than November, it has started to get cold already this year and I've had to use the heating in my house which is a bit unusual for April, maybe it's going to be a cold winter...
If you're planning on moving here for a year you could get away with bringing the clothes you've listed and if you're cold buy something warmer.
Thanks Tim! Yep, just to be on the safe side i'll bring some more warm clothes. Don't want to freeze again!
I know Qld's weather is going to start getting really hot around May/June/July (correct me if i'm wrong), but at what point between the two states do you actually feel the change in warmth? I know that might be a weird question to ask but i'm thinking of travelling up the east coast and i'm trying to estimate where i should be when. Thanks in advance.
QLD tends to be warmish all year around, it's slightly cooler (but still warm) in the winter months (jun-aug) but it's far less humid and so it's a good time to travel up there. Summer is called the wet season and it tends to be hot and humid which makes things sticky and occasionally they have flooding up there.
When you feel the warmth will depend on what kind of weather you're used to. Last July I went on a trip from Sydney up to the tip of Cape York and as we travelled up it was noticeably warmer at about Byron Bay where we swapped from jeans and a t-shirt to shorts and t-shirt. It was still cool in the morning and evening, but during the day we felt like having a swim - the locals still thought it was cold though! The further north you travel the warmer it gets and you'll not want to go back south until it starts getting really humid.
Thanks...you've answered my question perfectly I will probably feel like you, and think Qld is pretty warm in the winter months since i'm used to New York weather (right now its slightly chilly here). I guess i will have to try to make my way up quickly up the coast since it won't be that warm in NSW around May/June/July. I want to make sure i get that nice QLD weather ahhh
