If you look for adventurous and long - go to India!
The problem is that some people say the same thing about Thailand and Vietnam . Maybe I should just pick one with my eyes closed.
Vietnam is pretty damn nice, but hurry, it's changing day by day!

Maybe different question: what makes these countries worth visiting ?
From the nearly 60 countries I have been to, to me India proved to offer the most unique experience. I am not saying I prefer India to any other country, but it certainly gives you a great amount of impulses. It's not an easy place to travel as compared to Thailand, but it's very vibrant and "adventurous". Also, it's very diverse: there are deserts, high altitude mountains, rain forests, different religions, culturally very rich cities.
I can always meet a lot of people on the road - both India or Thailand have their backpacker centers - make friendships and travel together or split up when you want to wander alone.
i would highly recommend Thailand, Vietnam (beautiful coast), Cambodia and Laos.
very popular route and you will have loads of fun.
Now, time for Myanmar(Burma)! Just come, you will not be sorry!
