Working Holiday around NZ alone!

I have no plan as to where to go, and i've been looking at this thread a lot lately so I thought "hey, maybe someone's going to be in NZ the same time I am or could give me some tips". This is the first time travelling alone, and I want to see mostly the rural places more than cities. I have a return ticket for after two months, but I decided if I like it there (I think I will), that I'd just stay and save up for a later onward ticket..
I'm travelling to NZ, starting in Auckland, mid december then staying 'til maaaaaybe March! And IRD numbers, how hard are they to get etc etc if someone could tell me?

I wouldn't know about the IRD numbers since I'm an old geezer and don't like work! There are approximately 3 million people going to NZ every year, so very likely you will meet one of them there and get on famously.

Since NZ has a population of 3.5 million, 1 million of which live in Auckland and the country is the size of the UK which has a population of 60 million, it leaves a lot that is rural, so no problem finding those areas!

If you have a return ticket for 2 months after you arrive and you decide to stay on, you should be able to simply call the airline and extend your stay. Depending on the ticket you have this could cost nothing or $50 to $100, you can change it as many times as you want as long as you keep paying the change fee.

Hey mate.. just wondering how your trip went/is going?? Im planning on doing the same thing early next year. Any advice would be great.
Cheers. Steve

I'm thinking of heading to NZ December time through Bunac so I can get my working visa. Would be travelling alone but wouldn't mind company! Through Bunac I'd get my tickets, visa and accommodation for first couple of nights in NZ sorted. They help you find work and accommodation etc and just a port of call for any help needed whilst out there. Not sure how long to stay out there so thinking I'd get a one way ticket and make sure I have money saved to buy a ticket to come home if it's not cracked up to be anything I'm hoping for.
