The Guadalajara International Book Fair is the most important publishing gathering in Ibero-America. It is also an amazing cultural festival. Created 25 years ago by the University of Guadalajara, the Fair is aimed at professionals and the general public alike, a characteristic that sets it apart from other book fairs around the globe. With business as one of its main goals, it is also a cultural festival in which literature plays a major role including a program where authors from all continents and languages participate, and a forum for the academic discussion of the major issues of our time.
I should imagine most books will be in Spanish? As will most of the talks?
If in Mexico City, there is a street near Belle Artes which has quite a number of booksellers on it. Not as good as it was a dozen years ago. My first visit I took home two suitcases of pocket books and sold them fairly cheaply but still managed to pay for my two week holiday in Mexico. They were also selling leather books a few centuries old very cheaply.
Just a year later and most of the bargains had gone.
