Hi I'm 22 and planning on going travelling beginning of march for a year. I'm currently planning on going solo. Really don't know what route to take, i'm social person so would like to have nightlife and to be able to do casual work. I've heard starting at melbourne is the best. Would you advise to have accomindation sorted out for the first couple of weeks. Is anyone else planning their trip at the moment and going around the same time?
I would stay in a hostel.. bigger ones = more people. This is could be good or bad, it depends on how you look at it. Melbourne I heard has a good nightlife scene. I went solo in '09 and met a ton of Europeans. I stayed on the east cost though. I found that it is a very safe country, just be aware of your surroundings .. like anywhere.
Hi Angela I am 21 and am also planning on going to Australia mid Febuary and am planning my trip now. I have not booked my flights and am also planning on going solo love I love to party so really would love to meet some people out there. Have you decided where to start?
Reanna x
Angela and Reanna,
I am so happy to have stumbled upon your posts! It's hard to find those my age (22-23) who are going to Melbourne and not Sydney in march! I too am going alone and am desperatly finding someone to meet up with. Do you guys hope to get a job there? We should get one another on Facebook!
-Meredith
Have lots of fun I know what it's like to travel solo and it's nothing bad.
HI Thanks starting to feel a lot more relaxed about going on my own.
Reanne and Meredith, great to hear that there are other people in the same boat!
planning on starting in melbourne making my my way up the east cost and hopefully ending up perth!
I've just got my visa but haven't booked flights either yet; and yes I am planning on working when out there.
yeah message me n i'll give youmy facebook x
Hi Angie.
Pretty much planning on the same as youself, had enough of Glagsow for now and been saving like mad!
Two failry major things are undecided for me yet - date or arrival and destination!
Will either be 2nd week in Feb, or 2nd week in March (depends on money and when I hand my notice in. If its Feb I'd need to hand it in before Xmas, and a good chance I'd be told not to come back!!) - and in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Hoping to travel a bit, and find work as well.
Stopping off in Thailand on route for something to break up the journey over.
Was a tad nervous about going alone, but think it will open plenty of doors as well - as said above, you can do what and when you please.
Hi there
Melbourne is great at that time of year - heaps going on. Just book ahead your first few nights accommodation as hostels can be very full then. Once you arrive, you will want to sleep first 24 hours!
good luck
