General advise.

So Im an English 19 year old and I want to go travelling around the world for as long as possible and until I either get bored of it or get home sick. There are many places I wish to explore such as Australia, India, Thailand, Mexico, Brazil (Amazon). I know my plans are very vague at the moment however I have no idea where to begin when travelling and what to consider.

Not to burst your bubble, but if you're not already a VERY accomplished photographer who has already regularly been selling photos then forget the dream of financing your trip by somehow becoming a freelance shooter. The travel world is overflowing with very, very good photographers and quite simply it's impossible for an amateur to break into that market - the bar is set WAY too high.

As for how much money you'll need... how long is a ball of string? Budgets vary wildly of course... if you're couch-surfing, staying in dorms and cooking your own food then your money requirements will be minuscule compared to the average flashpacker.

Lastly, the single greatest impact on your budget is choice of destination... you mention Australia... I can live very comfortably in India for a year for what a month costs in Australia.

Good luck and have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

In 2009 I spent about 10-20 pounds a day traveliing in Thailand, including transport, food, and accomo with maybe a night or two out per week.

Australia is quite a good place to work- quite a lot of jobs around (esp in the outback). I never had a problem getting work and it paid well. Auz is really expensive though if you are just travelling around, maybe about 10-20 pounds a night for a dorm room on average.
I did a bit of camping in Australia in the summer which makes it way cheaper.

Good luck.

Have you looked into volunteer programs such as teaching foreign students English? Or I participated in a service trip while in college where we built a house for a poor South American village.

They can be very cost effective, and it's probably one of the best ways to learn about local culture, and becoming friends with the locals.

Have fun!
