A week in Thailand-enough time to see Elephants??

Hi All,

I hope you are staying in Thailand longer than 7 days or at least using that initial flight to Bangkok for further travel to other nearby countries. Seven days is kind of short for such a long flight getting there. Once you get the plane tickets a few more days in Thailand or other country is not that much more expensive.

There are places that let you ride elephants in Thailand. You pay of course! Kachanaburi is one, nearer Bangkok. You can do it in Chiang Mai too. Local travel agents or even your hotel front desk can direct you. Even in Pattaya you can ride elephants.

Even though Bangkok has some flooding problems, right now, 80% of the city is functioning normal. For Bangkok get a hotel near the Skytrain. There is even rail service from the airport to many places in the city. But keep up with any flooding information. Suvarnabhumi Airport is designed to withstand normal flooding and currently everything is running normally.

For Chiang Mai you can use train, bus or fly. Overnight sleeper train is a popular way to get to Chiang Mai. For Thailand, with UK passport you can enter free and get a Visa Exemption stamp in your passport good for 30 days. From the airport to the hotels in Bangkok, besides the rail service, you also have excellent meter taxi (Public Taxi) service. Go to first floor, 2 desk areas to use. Rail service a couple floors below the taxi service. No rail service after midnight.

Every now and then you see mahouts with elephants on Sukhumvit Road and other tourist haunts even in Bangkok. Supposed to be good luck to crawl under an elephant!

Good luck.

THANK YOU!! Really useful info much appreciated
Am re-locating to the UK hence the flying visit to Thailand. Have previously travelled the surrounding countries but desperate to see some Elephants as still on my To Do list!!

Visitors can find here inevitable fun & pleasure just off the mighty ocean. From sunbathing to wind surfing and snorkeling to scuba diving, Goa beaches offers invincible water sports fitting to all natures of travelers.
