Vietnam/Cambodia 2012

I will be traveling to Vietnam and Cambodia for 10 days. I fly in and out of HCM City, so I think I'm going to have to skip the North, even though Halong Bay looks amazing. I also, dont want to waste too much money on flights. My thought was to do a few days HCM, fly to Siem Reap, do few days Angkor Wat, bus to Phnom Penh, boat to Chau Doc, bus to Rach Gia then boat to Phu quoc then back to HCM city and home.

Sully,
I gave you my advice in another post. I think you should drop Siem Reap. I checked with VN Air, over $200 one way. Cambodia Angkor Air, a bit under $200. I just don't think Angkor Wat is worth your time & money when you only have 10 days.

I would spend my first 2 days in HCM. Take the overnight bus to Nha Trang on your 3rd day. This gives you the entire day sightseeing, arrive in NT early am. covers my time in NT. Day bus to Mui Ne, 2 days. Overnight bus back to HCM. Last couple days in SGN. Perhaps a delta tour, tunnels. Fly home. Good luck with your planning.

While I do think it's a shame that you're not going to visit Nha Trang or places further north in Vietnam like Hoi An, I don't think that you can afford to skip Angkor Wat. Unless you travel to Southeast Asia on a regular basis, Angkor Wat is just too amazing of a place to be skipped.

We did 10 days in Vietnam last month . HCM city 3 nights including Mekong delta tour plus walking through the city and dinner on Saigon river , then Da Nang , Hoi An, Ba Na hills , then Hanoi and Halong Bay . Halong Bay is just an amazing experience not to be missed . We decided to keep Angkor Vat for another tour . We loved Vietnam completely. 10 days is too less to do justice to both Vietnam and Cambodia.

I have a blog written for Vietnam .

Happy Journey .

Ranjankar1 is correct - with 10 days, I would not do both countries, and Vietnam would be my choice (I consider the North to be considerably more interesting than Saigon and the South)

Base yourself in Hanoi and see Sapa, Hanoi and Halong Bay

(Your plan to see 2 countries with beach time too would require more like 3 weeks minimum to do it justice)
