Hey guys! Ok. So I'm a bit panicked. I'm not gonna have as much money as I had wanted to have for my trip to Melb this December so I was wondering, how much would you all budget for a ten day trip?
Melbourne is quite walkable, and the tram system is really superb. There's also a good connection from the airport to the city with the "skybus". The only time I ever took a taxi in Melbourne was when I was living in a house in the suburbs and needed to get to the airport at 4 AM.
Food costs are really hard to say anything sensible about. You could spend anywhere from AUD $15 to AUD $100 for a meal without calling it outrageous. Say AUD $30-$40 for what I'd consider an "average" dinner at an "average" restaurant; lunch should be a bit cheaper. But costs will rise quite a bit if you want to really sample the wide variety of quality restaurants (and drink some excellent local wines while at it).
awesome thanks Sander
