applying for travel guide job - question

Was wondering if anyone can help me with this. I'm applying for a team leader job with a travel company. One of the questions has to do with how I would handle the following scenario:

No reputable tour agency would be taking clients into a remote area without a satellite phone for emergencies.

Cheers,
Terry

In any case it would be dumb for you to stay with the injured person - you're the leader of the group and thus the only person who definitely knows the way in-and-out of the, "remote area."

Although the thought of you waiting with the injured person while everyone else wanders around lost in the middle of nowhere is kind of funny...

Good luck with the job.

Cheers,
Terry

I'm with Terry in that your friend's suggestion sounds more right to me.

Having a medical background and first aid training, that question puts me in a quandary. I, personally, would stay with the injured person because I know what to do in that situation. I would trust someone else could get to a phone and my skills were better suited with staying with the injured person. If you do not have that training, then leave the others to work it out and you find a phone. You will be the team leader.

Again personally, I would leave some of the group with the injured person and take some with me to find help - phone or otherwise. I look at the question as the worst case scenario where it is a compound fracture with bleeding. Someone has to stay behind to manage the wound while you find help. It really does come down to the 'divide and conquer' scenario.

Unless absolutely necessary, never leave an injured person alone in a remote area. A small group is easier to find than just one individual. Divide it up - half stay to administer even minor health care while you and the rest find rescue services.

Leadership is the key word and resources comes in second. If you are guiding a group - use them as your resources. Those afraid of venturing out, use them to take care of the injured person. The rest help you find what ever you need. Divide it up.

Hope that helps.
