how does monsoon season effect travel in se asia?

Ive planned my trip through se asia (Vietnam through to the Philippines) between May-Dec, smack bang in the middle of monsoon season.

Hello Lucy,

From what I know, during monsoon season, most of the islands are close. There will not be any boats to take u there.

For the mainlands, it will be okay. It may rain but you can still move from one place to another.

I hope this helps...

cheers... Yatina

hi guys,

I'm nervous after reading this post. We are heading to Krabi and Koh Lanta in august. i know it's the low season and we are going to be armed with poncho's but still hoping for some sunshine?????????

hopefully some sunshine

It would be wise not to have your trip during monsoon season in SE Asia.

Franky most island will be closed & small boats would not be operational as well. So chances effecting your diving, island & beach visit would be great.

Normally, the monsoon path will start in the Philippine before arriving in Vietnam, Thailand & Malaysia (east coast only). Sometimes it can drag till Jan for Malaysian east coast region.

As for Koh Lanta & Krabi, it's the opposite so going there during October onwards will be a heaven!

Hope the infors help.

I was in the Philippines last year in the middle of the rainy season and we stayed on one the most beautiful and deserted beaches in the world. No-one was there because it was the rainy season but the weather was great. The weather was fantastic. Basically what I am saying is that it can be amazing but it may rain all the time. Just go and find out.

I went to Koh Samui during the rainy season, i think it was the middle of July and it wa absolutely fine. It rained a bit but there were lots of tourists and all boats operational etc. Agree with bwiiian you won't know until you get there, but i'm sure you'll be fine enjoy!

Ive planned my trip through se asia (Vietnam through to the Philippines) between May-Dec, smack bang in the middle of monsoon season.

I need advice on whether this will totally effect my trip,
Ive heard it only rains for a few hours a day, but that it can effect travelling (damaging roads) etc

Will it effect diving?
Or island or beach visits?

Is it worth changing the dates to travel out of monsoon season?

It is pretty annoying to go out when it is raining all the time. We didn't like Thailand as much when it is really humid.
