There's quite a few YHA's in Sydney, so you'd probably be okay. The newest one down at the Rocks would probably be awesome on NYE!! Another hostel to consider would be , which is right next to the YHA at Central Station. There's a rather popular bar in the basement as well

I would book asap. When I stayed in Sydney over Christmas and New Year '04 I booked in the July and availability was tight then. I stayed at Base which was in a good, central location and I had a great time there.

razzaefc - YHA hostels are everywhere, they seem to have consistantly good reviews but are a bit more expensive than the others. Have a look at the website: http://www.yha.com.au

Do you know if YHA put the prices up at xmas or are they more or less the same. I'm thinking as long as I'm on the ball with the YHA ones I should be ok if I hold out for The Rocks or Central Station (friends have recommended both)? If not I could fall back on Base or Wake Up.
We are going to be in Sydney for New Year. A friend of mine has just came back from 7 weeks in Oz, he recommends The Rocks also.

There was a big thread here last year where one of the members organized a camp out just outside of Sydney on one of the campsites. I think nearly 20 people joined him in the end (we ran it as a featured thread for a while). It's . There's probably some useful info there for you, and if I'm not mistaken the owner of the campsite helped out too.... yes, just re-read some of the thread and the owner is a member: . If a few of you get together to make this happen again this year, let us know and we'll set it up as a featured thread again so others can join you!

I will do a bit more research but I reckon we would be up for organizing a TP meet!! I am new to the big worldly travel scene. Steve ( beta half ) and I organize motorbike meets around England and Scotland. So we are pretty good at organizing group events.
Can't wait for the adventure to start!
