HELP refund policy over Christmas in SYDNEY!

Hi,

Hostels are cheap accommodation. You should not expect too much from them. I looked at some reviews and though not all agreed, the complaints were noisy and dirty. The former cannot always be helped, even in good hotels. As to the latter, it's an old building and they do clean but apparently not enough. Also rooms are said to be small (which is still better than dorms).

You have contradictory information as in no money taken till you turn up and no refunds. You will have to check if the latter is mentioned in conditions of the former. Then get onto your credit card company and see what they say. Most are not sympathetic. Don't tell them you did not like the reviews of the place.

Really you should have checked reviews beforehand, not that they are too trustworthy. Check a good four star hotel on tripadvisor and you will find anything from "It's a hovel" to "excellent". People lie. If they had a noisy stay there, as you will in most places in Sydney over xmas and NY, they say bad things out of spite. It happens. Photos in dining rooms, etc showed lots of people staying there so how bad can it be?

Check out the photos here and tell me if that looks dirty to you:

It looks OK to me and based on them, I would certainly stay there, though I would probably take along some earplugs for anywhere I stayed in Sydney over that period.

Accommodation is VERY expensive in Sydney for that period of time and it is in a very central location there. You could end up with a lot worse if you cancel.

Hi,

Sorry if it sounded like i was contradicting myself. I gave them my bank details to secure a booking and it said that full payment would be taken from that account when i check into the hostel on the 23rd dec.

When i cancelled the booking it just say 'you have successfuly cancelled your booking' no other information was supplied i.e. refunds or charges etc.

It was only when i went on the refunds page that it mentions no refunds were offered over the xmas period.

Im thinking of phoning my bank and explaining it to them and see if they can stop the payment going out in december?

Thanks

Have you considered simply contacting the actual property? I imagine that a cancellation eight months in advance is not something they intend to charge for, but of course they're the only ones who can say that with any certainty. (No need to tell them that you cancelled because of bad reviews of course.)

Also, if you booked through travellerspoint, they're very responsive about any and all questions regarding accommodation bookings; simply use the contact link from the footer, and select "I have already booked accommodation through Travellerspoint" in the topic selectbox.

Hi,

Ive emailed the hostel so just waiting to hear back, after speaking to the bank they have said the best bet is to just close my account and open a new one.

Thanks for the advice though
