I have always wanted to go to central/south America, so have bought my ticket and am staying with a host family in Antigua, Guatemala from this saturday(April 14th) and will start off by learning Spanish. As the date is approaching I have become increasingly worried about going alone, and was wondering if anyone was going to be out there at the same time as me??
Hi - please don't worry, I backpacked through Central America on my own and it was fantastic. Use common sense and you'll be fine !!
I also stayed with a family whist in Antigua - don't panic about being on your own ..... you will meet so many people in Antigua, at Spanish school and also around the town who are doing similar to you so you'll never be on your own unless you want to be !!
Have fun !
Carolyn.
Antigua is filled to the brim with foreigners and if you're sticking to the usual guide book Gringo Trail throughout Central/South America then you'll be meeting fellow travellers constantly. No worries.
Cheers,
Terry
