Planning a trip from England to China via train/ferry

Hello all,

Going through Iran and Pakistan will always be risky.there are a lot of security issues specially for the white people.
However your idea is great i wish one day i could go for such a trip.one option is you can go through Russia to China. On the way you can also experience the Trans Siberian railways

cheers
And wish you luck for your trip.
Vijay

Hey Vijay

Thanks for you post. Trans Siberian is also a good idea. I will look into that. Another option I am looking at is going through Cyprus/Israel/Jordan/Saudi Arabia/then UAE. From there fly to India. I actually have some family that live in UAE half the year. The only thing is there seems to be a bit of discrepancy on whether there is a ferry from Cyprus to Israel. Any information you have on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the well wishes and the post,

Marcus

Hello Marcus

I did Google on ferry service from Cyprus to Israel and that's what i found.Ferry services from Cyprus to Israel are on a very limited basis, and do not operate year round. Currently only one company, Varianos Travel, provides limited ferry service - two times a month between May and October. It is possible to gain passage with a freighter or private boat making the trip between Limassol and Haifa, but this entails inquiring at the docks in Limassol and a lot of luck.

So good luck to you and have a safe journey.

Hi Marcus,

I seem to remember but this is some years ago that you could travel by ferry from Cyprus to Cairo in Egypt, could you work with that.

Check out this link, might be of interest.

China is great I've traveled there twice once did the tourist bit and the second time we traveled along the southern coastline, it's a different world with very little English spoken a real challenge but the people are wonderful and so so helpful.

I personally would steer clear of Iran and Pakistan but then I am a bit older than you and am more cautious.

check out these links they may be of help in your planning.

Visas need buying on route so record where you can buy them before you set off.
