Lonely Planet V Rough Guides?

Which have you used and would recommend? Unsure as well whether to get South East Asia on a shoestring or Rough guide to S.E Asia?

Anyone?

In my opinion it's comparing Ford and General Motors - it makes no difference.

For destinations like SE Asia where there have been dozens and dozens of guidebooks written for years and years and years you naturally reach a certain saturation point. It's not like the usual tourist sights change or there's magically new tourist things to see. All the major publications cover the major destinations very well so it comes down to personal preference - which layout do you like best, etc.

In other words, don't sweat the guide book. It's not a bible to live by and most importantly it sure can't tell you what the really, really cool stuff is - you find that yourself.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry
