I've literally just found and signed up up this site the night before I go to Melbourne! I was due to go with a mate but she can't go anymore, so I'm trying to stop being a wimp, bite the bullet and do it solo. Is anyone else around this week for the festival? And does anyone know what the YHA on Flinders street is like? I'm currently booked in there. Basically I'm really keen on meeting new people and perhaps going to some comedy gigs etc and fun day/night spots. So if anyone is keen, let me know! Also tips for shows, or sightsees round there too!
There are a number of YHA hostels in Melbourne. The one on Flinder's Street is the Central YHA hostel.
The hostel will have a message board which you can use to find like minded people.
There are a number of reviews but typically they are worthless because they range from excellent to no-go zone.
