Visa run near Chiang Mai or Krabi

Do you have experience doing a border/visa run (to extend travel time in Thailand) near Chiang Mai or Krabi?

I did a visa run from Krabi about six weeks ago and it goes to Malaysia. The bus sets off at about 7am, drives to the border, then you head straight back and get back to Krabi about 6:20pm ish, so it's a fairly long day, but fairly straight forward.

I paid 900 baht for my minibus ticket from Good Dream which is two doors down from Pak Up hostel. The visa itself didn't actually cost anything but I'm not sure if this was because I had bought a double entry 60 day visa already in advance. If you don't have a visa already though you'll get a visa on arrival which lasts for 14 days.

If you have a 60 day visa already then you can go to Krabi immigration office and pay around about 1900 baht for a 30 day extension (take two passport photos). They process it really quickly and it's a lot quicker than having to spend all day travelling to the border and back. If you don't have a 60 day visa though, then you can only get a 7 day extension.
