I know that there are transient houses available for budget travelers in Santorini. I suggest those so that you will experience living like a Greek.
Kykladonisia was recommended to me for Santorini, heard of it?
I stayed at Paradise Beach Resort ("resort" makes it sound fancy but it's not) in Mykonos. It's basically a spring break atmosphere. Plenty of young party people, beach access, cheap food, several bars and big dance club right there, low-priced bus into the old town to party there and a variety of rooming options from tent areas to small cement huts to normal rooms. Word to the wise, they provide a van from the airport but they need to know when your flight lands and if your flight changes along the way, call them with the new time because they don't bother to check emails. Not great when you land late and you're standing outside in the dark wondering where they are
