Norwegian Fjords

kugali has indicated that this thread is about Norway

If you've only got a day and are starting out in Oslo you won't be able to see the fjords of postcard variety. Of course Oslo itself is located on the Oslo fjord, but it isn't the type with steep cliffs riding on both sides.

Sam I am is right about salt water fjords, but Norway have some lakes that are named fjords as well. And it is not just the name, these lakes shares many of the charactheristics of the fjords by the sea. The nearest I can come up with, which is surrounded by tall mountains is Tinnsjø (Tinnsjo). Getting ther will mean a nearly 200 km one way drive from Oslo by following E-18, E-134, road 361 and 37. To get there you will drive through some fairly wild forested landscape, and pass several places of historic interest. Tinnsjø itself hides some fairly special water in its depths. If you want to know more, please ask.
Wish you a nice stay in Norway, wherever you decide to go.
