I will be visiting Osaka in May 2013 for 10 days. How many days would be best to visit Osaka?
Of the places we visited in Japan, it was probably my least favourite, but of course tastes vary For any city that size, 5 days will really only scratch the surface anyway, so it certainly wouldn't be lost time. We did a day trip out to Himeji one of the days we were there. Worked well from Osaka.
If you have the choice of staying in Osaka or in Kyoto though, I'd recommend making it Kyoto. Really loved that city
I think 5 days is too long for Osaka 2 or 3 days is enough.
I agree, but if like me, you love the onsen experience, you can spend an entire day at http://www.spaworld.co.jp/english/service.html I visited with my daughter last July and we greatly enjoyed the European zone. I'm still wishing for a return trip during an even month of the year so I may experience the Asian zone.
This facility is so grand that even if you don't know about onsen or are still a bit uncomfortable with the whole share bathing notion, I think it's a great place to start. and if you're a fan of onsen... well all the better. I highly recommend it!

I have shorten my stay in Osaka, and plan to spend more time in Kyoto! I have drafted my itinerary briefly, would appreciate further inputs?
Day 1 : Arrival in Osaka - night. Put up a night downtown.
Day 2 - Day 4 : Depart to Kyoto fr Osaka
Day 5 : Branch out to Nara from Kyoto
Day 6 : Takayama/Nagoya/Yoshino/Mount Koya, which is more worthy to visit?
Day 7 : Takayama/Nagoya/Yoshino/Mount Koya, which is more worthy to visit?
Day 8 : Back to Osaka, day trip to Kobe is it sufficient?
Day 9 - 11 : Exploring Osaka - any must see places to recommend?
Day 12 : Fly back home
There are 2 particular places I would like to explore in Kyoto, one is the Bamboo forest in Arashiyama and the Fushimi Inari Shrine.. anyone been there? Would you recommend to put up a night nearby? I thought a day trip would be just sufficient.. but from the picture, sceneries in Arashiyama looks very enticing.
