Hi Tam, have you thought about staying in Pisa, good base to get to Cinque Terre, Florence and Lucca. check out Michele B/B we, my wife and I have had 2 lovely stays there, from Pisa, Florence is on 50 minutes away by train, Lucca only 20 minutes away also by train, Cinque Terre, we did as a day trip as well, Michele is very good and will give you lots of good advice on other places to visit as well if you need any more info give me a P/M, cheers Allan

I spent 4 weeks last summer in Italy.
You should definitely visit Pisa as well. There the best hostel I've stayed so far. It's called Hostel Pisa Tower B&B.
Concerning Venice I would recommend you to stay at one of the many campsites. They are much cheaper and the connection by bus to the island is perfect.
And in Florence we stayed at the PLUS Hostel. We were very pleased with our choice.
However I always book my hostels via hostelworld.

Thank you for the suggestions . I will look into Pisa and Venice accommodations but as for florence funny in enough i have booked plus florence hostel for my stay as my friends raved so much about their stay from last year .

Great to hear that you will be spending some time in Italy. Like the others have mentioned, airbnb and hostelworld are the best for booking accommodations. I would have recommended New Ostel in Florence - it's brand new and basically like a hotel - but PLUS Hostel is good for partying, so you will probably enjoy yourself. In Rome, I would recommend Freedom Traveller. They have also have a brand new sister hostel that maybe you could ask about. Definitely don't leave Pisa off your list! And stay away from Hostel California in Milan.
