China August

Going on a RTW trip with my girlfriend and we will be going to china for a month/month and a half. We know we won't be able to see everything in this time but have a few questions regarding what we want to see and what is the best way to do so.

how long do you plan to spend in each place? I would suggest going to the Yangtze river or going to a panda sanctuary

that sounds like too much for only 1.5 months. I would suggest to pick less places. Beijing alone should have at least 4 days, though you can easily spend a week just visiting the main sights. A trip to the Great Wall should definitely be part of it.
I live in Beijing and it is an amazing city. China is a big country though, do not stress yourself

I think 1.5 months would be good.
A number of years ago spent a month visiting Guilin/Yanghsuo, and Yunnan province (Lijiang, Dali, Zhongdian, Tiger Leaping Gorge) starting and ending in Hong Kong, and I thought it was a great amount of time. I was able to spend almost a week in each town and loved it. Last year I went back with my wife, and visited Kunming, Dali, and Lijiang over about 10 days. We felt it was almost too much time, as these towns have become crazy touristy and boring after a couple days. Don't get me wrong - totally worth visiting, but you don't need to hang out too long. One place we did add to this trip that I can't recommend enough is Yuanyang. It's a few hours south of Kunming and beautiful. It's also a great chance to get out into the countryside and see China without the crowds of tourists.

Beijing and Shanghai have a lot to offer, but you could probably get away with 3 in Shanghai, and 4-5 in Beijing. If you are taking the train, than that's only 10 days or so including travel time. Don't know about Quingdao, but I guess it works as a stopover between the two.

So over all, I think 1.5 months is good: One month in the southwest, and 2 weeks in the coastal cities.

I can't agree with you any more.

Search huadrin by google you can get more useful information.

Might be a bit late, but into that route I would really recommend to include Pingyao, it is about three hours from Beijing and I would say more interesting than some of the other "more famous" destinations you have on your itinerary.

yeah, the itinerary is rather feasible. in addition to the cities you've mentioned above, you are also advised to visit Shanghai attractions such as the Bund, Guangzhou attractions such as Canton Tower
