I hope you mean an overnight sleeper car up to Chiang Mai and not just one night. Long ride on a train, but flying doesn't take much time once you get to the airport. (Two airports in Bangkok, by the way.)
If you do mean the popular overnight sleeper car to Chiang Mai book the sleeper car days ahead of time.

I'm heading to Bangkok around that time going to have 6 months to play with so quite flexible in what where and when , but really want to do Chang mai , I've done the overnight train before and there not to bad . How long are you going for ?
al be in koh phangan on the 22nd with my friend and then he heads away on the 25th to Bangkok to meet his girl! then am on my own if any u guys wanna join me would be great first time in Thailand and al be on my own so lookin to meet good friendly people to travel with :D

I am also traveling alone in August, looking for a travel buddie, I am female and 20 years old, this is my first time travelling so the thought of being alone is a bit daunting!
I am hoping to visit Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. With a mix of cultural and beachy/party experiences. Also up for going to the full moon party on the 21st of Aug!
