Wet season often ends sometime in October but can go into November rarely.
I would go December. You can be on the beach or just in the sun when they are all freezing back home. it'll give you a chance to put some more money away.
Cambodia and Vietnam like Thailand are cheap. The big cost is getting to Asia so why not spend some more time there?
You will need a visa for Vietnam. Cambodia you can pick up on arrival at the border.

If you visit Vietnam, Danang or Hoi An to be specific, I can whether give you a ride around Danang or to be a companion to Hoi An if you want to. :D

I'll be in Ho Chi Minh from 23-25 Oct if you're about. I'm finishing a tour on the 23rd and have decided to stay for a few days before flying back to London.
There are buses running from Bangkok or Pattaya to Cambodia, advance booking is recommended due to unfortunately be full.
From Bangkok, there is bus run to Siemriep 9.00 am everyday but 1 - 2 days advance booking recommended.
Thai Cambodia border crossing is very easy just prepare 20 usd for Cambodia VOA and 2 passport photo.
From Cambodia you can cross to Vietnam Hochiminh City, there is bus running service as well.
Then in Vietnam, you can catch a flight back to Thailand with many low cost airline. Airasia, ThaiVietjet, Tiger or Thai Airways.
I will be in Bangkok 23/Sept - 02/OCt, and then to Siem Reap for 5 days and then continuing on to Phnom Penh till 12/Oct.
The September or in early october is the best time to see the rice terraces in Vietnam, in particular Sapa
