NZ/Aus Working Holiday Visa Queries....help please??

Soooo, I've decided I want to go on a working holiday for a year or 2 but fear I may have left it a bit late visa/age restriction wise.I am currently 29 and it would take me a couple of years to save to go so would be 31 when embarking on my adventure. I know that the WHVs for NZ/Aus for UK citizens are for 18-30 yr olds but from what I have read I think that I could apply for the WHV up until my 31st birthday and then would have a further 12 months from date of approval of the WHV to enter the country. Could anyone confirm if I have got this right? (I know that there is a further IEP visa which I could get through BUNAC for NZ which allows people up to 35 to work in NZ for up to 12 months but I'd prefer to try to get the WHV first in case I decide to go back before I'm 35 and could then make use of the IEP visa). Also when applying for the visas, do I need to have proof of available funds to support me when I apply for the visas OR when I enter the country (sorry if this is a ridiculous question but I want to make sure I get this right). If I have got my facts correct then I hope to get working holiday visas for both Aus and NZ, the Aus for the 12 months and the NZ WHV for the full 23 months. I was then thinking of flying into NZ to activate the NZ 23 month visa, stay for a couple of weeks, then travel over to Aus before the visa entry date expires, work/travel in Aus for the year then back over to NZ to work/travel there for the remaining year left on that visa. Sorry if this sounds a bit complicated but I just want to make sure I don't have to resign myself to the fact that I am just to old to live out this dream before I start planning!!Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer

Everything you write is correct. As long as the application request is in before the day on which you turn 31 has started (in the applicable Australian / New Zealand timezone), you're good - you then have a year to enter each country, and as the visas are multiple entry, you can do your back and forth trip as you describe it without any trouble.

There is actually no point in the process at which you need to show proof of funds. Theoretically they can ask you for this when you enter the country, but they never do (that I've experienced or ever heard of in many years on this forum). You definitely don't need to have this when applying for a visa; you're far from alone in still needing to save up at that point.

So good luck with saving, and have an amazing two years!
