Two Days at the Grand Canyon

Hi Alex,

First of all you better stay up to date on the possible government shutdown as if that happens all National Parks will be closed starting Oct 1 until there is a new budget.

Having said that, you'll be closest to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. There will be plenty to do and see in two days. I'd recommend staying in the adjacent town of Tusyan and taking the shuttle into the park. Hit all the overlooks you can and hike.

I work on the North Rim so won't be available to join you.

Have fun.

The National Parks did shut down on Oct. 1 because Congress could not agree on spending. Check first before driving to the Grand Canyon.

sorry National parks did shut down on Oct 1

Check out havasupi it the Indian reservation outside the the national park. Lots of water and big waterfalls, its requires a permit and about a 9 mile hike in but worth it.

As it turns out, I did end up going to the Havasupai Indian reservation. I highly recommend it. It is nothing short of fantastic and breath taking. Even though the National parks are closed, including the Grand Canyon, the Havasu Falls are on Native land, so you can still go during this shut down.

It is a 8-10 mile hike in and out (each way!), so be prepared. Lots of water. You need a reservation (about $45/night to camp out). There are a series of waterfalls, of which Havasu Falls is the most famous.

Enjoy!
