Hi there! Will be travelling to perth in march and have no idea which hostels to book. Any recommendation? And is it safe to actually stay in dorms? Inexperienced solo traveller. : ) And is the Pinnacles worth the trip there?
Use the Accommodation link at the top. Try to get somewhere near public transport. If you have an out of hours arrival time, find somewhere open 24 hours.
Dorm rooms will have lockers in which you can put your day pack and valuables. (Bring your own padlock.) Not super safe, but good enough for practical purposes. No one is interested in your dirty laundry, so your big backpack will be just fine lying about in the room.
The only real problem with dorm rooms will be your fellow backpackers, which might snore, or spread their dirty laundry all over the room, or spray heavy deodorant all about, or turn on the light when they stumble in drunkenly at 3 A.M., or do any other a hundred other things which generally and luckily don't happen too often (except for the snoring), as unwritten backpacker etiquette tends to hold.
I did the Pinnacles a couple of years ago (there one day, back the next), and found them worthwhile. Amazing to be out there for sunset and sunrise; but it sure is a long drive, and nothing much else around.
