This is our first time inter railing and we could really do with some help of where is best to go / stay / what trains to get!
We can fly into Biarritz from Dublin and stay there a few days but don't know where else to go to in France as an in-between point before heading to Milan / Venice in Italy!
I find it very confusing to understand what is included in the inter rail price and which trains you need to pay extra for!

Please help

Thank you,
Nicola

Hello,

I think you first you need to get a sense of the area you plan to travel through.

Or the Google Maps - get directions section.

Type in a from, say Biaritz & a to say Milan & see what route suggestions pop up & what seems interesting to you.

The use the . There is a button you can click to try to avoid using reservations.

I had a look at the Interrail website & it is indeed confusing as to what is included. My take on it is that just about any train is 'Free' as long as you do not have to reserve a seat. So high speed trains would be extra as most need reservations.

Once you have an idea of your route & number of days on each place, my advise is for you to ask for help from Interrail themselves

Hope this is of some use to get you started.

I have to admit Steve all your help was amazing as we spent hours looking through sites and some things you pointed us to just shortened everything down it was great!! Thank you!

As a bit of an update!! We decided (due to short duration) to stick to south of france
Nice, Toulon, Marseille, Montpeiller, Toulouse, & Biarritz!

Just looking for hostels now and plans of things to do and we are all set !
Excited
Thank you for your help!!!

Hi,

I think you are right to limit your plans a bit.

The South of France is indeed wonderful. If I could suggest you go just a little bit further beyond Nice and visit Monaco. And a side trip into the hills at Grasse. Whole hillsides covered in Lavender.

Since you now have your itinarary & are only going to be in France I am wondering if a Interrail is best for you or if there is a France only train ticket ( maybe, I don't know ) or if point to point advance ticket might be cheaper.

& the bullet InterRail pass or normal point-to-point tickets?

Happy travels.
