The best places to go really varies depending on what you're interested in. History? Music? Events? Culture? Nature? If you can narrow it down for us, we can probably help you a bit more easily.
Are you going with friends? What are they interested in?
I haven't been in a campervan, but I did tent my way through some of western Europe and met several people who were traveling in a campervan (including 2 lovely French couples who gave us a ride to the nearest bus station when we were stranded...lol), and have to say I haven't heard a negative thing about it yet.
