I'm flying to Auckland at the end of the end on a 12 month WHV. I'm a British citizen does anyone know if they do free healthcare in NZ like Australia have the Medicare
It depends what you mean by "free healthcare"! If you go to a hospital A & E having broken your arm or sprained your ankle, you'll be treated without charge because of a reciprocal agreement with the UK - you'll need to show your UK passport. If you have to visit a GP, it'll cost you a consultation fee and then possibly a fee for blood tests, prescriptions, x-rays and whatever (but that's the same for NZ citizens and residents too). There's also something here called ACC which provides personal injury cover in the event of an accident - see http://www.acc.co.nz/ . If you develop an illness and need treatment, you'll need medical insurance because the public health system would take ages to kick in and as a foreigner you'd be charged anyway. The flip side is that, if you get a job, income tax is lower than that in the UK and there's no NI contributions to make.

Yep ACC is great for accidents etc. To got to the doctor for general appointments costs around 100 dollars plus prescription fees
also you need to make sure you buy travel insurance before you leave as im pretty sure its impossible to get while you are there
