Hi everyone,
I would expect at least a half million tourists will show up in Thailand for the month of June. (Most show up when it starts to get cold in N. America and Europe. Especially close to Christmas but this is also when hotels are more fully booked and more expensive too!)
Thailand is as safe as you make it. If you get fallen down stupid drunk then things can happen. When I hear about women getting in trouble usually it is related to alcohol. Guys get in trouble too if they do stupid things when they are drunk too - but most of the time they just get stuff stolen from them!
Read some of the old posts on similar questions.
The passport you travel with and how long you intend to stay in Thailand determines what visa you need. Under 30 days from certain countries you can enter for free with a Visa Exemption you get at the airport in person. Over 30 days and specific countries you may have to pay for a visa.
Right now most of the protesters are near or at Lumpini Park. Avoid that area. Even when the protests were around the city they didn't affect tourists too much anyway. Protests come up avoid that area. Young people in Bangkok usually choose Khao San Road area. A forum check will give you some hotels you can look over. Usually knowing your price range will help narrow down what suggestions you get. This means you need to work out a daily budget ahead of time.
Good luck.
Hi Lia,
I was thinking about the same thing...I'm a female travelling alone for the first time and going to Thailand in June (I'll arrive in Bangkok the 20th of June) but I also think that many women travel solo in South East Asia and it's doable, just use common sense when going out
And I think that there'll be so many (solo) travellers you'll find it hard to be alone for a day
On what day will you arrive in Thailand?
Cheers,
Christel
If your tickets have already being booked then i think you should go. Thailand is a beautiful place and i know few friends who have visited this place. it is no doubt safe and you can be comfortable once you will be there.
One of the easiest ways to meet other backpackers is to stay in dorms. Pak Up Hostel in Krabi is an excellent hostel, and Ploy Dorm on Koh Phi Phi is also a nice hostel (but I prefer the upstairs dorm to the downstairs dorm).
If you're nervous, then just remember that lots of other people also go backpacking on their own, so if you stay in a hostel then you often find a very sociable atmosphere where people are up for meeting each other.

Hi there!
As other people say, Thailand is a pretty safe country. Open yourself and talk to random people in backpackers hostel, you'll never end up alone!
Thailand is also one of these countries where you don't necessarily need to take a guide with you. You'll meet a lot of people who will give you good advices. After all, it's the most touristic part of the world right now, hey.
Is it your first time traveling alone? It's normal to be nervous, but you'll probably fall in love with this way of traveling. More freedom, more experiences, more random people to meet!
Hey everyone! Thasnk you so much for the replies!
christel1108 - I get into Thailand early June and leave 22nd June - depending on where I am an where you are Im sure we could liase something. Message me your facebook and we can stay in touch!
dcblz - Yes first time alone which is why im freaking out haha! But In a way I think it will be good for me and make me more independent and discover the world from a complete different perspective than what I would if I went travelling with a group of friends!
Thanks for the assurance team!
Hi Lia,
Bangkok is pretty safe for women, it would be better not to stay at a isolated place and avoid going at isolated places during night...
I was at Phuket vacationing and stayed at Naiharn beach which was quite far away from town.. I hv taken a bike on rent and during night tyre got flat... and I didn't find people for miles.. Thanks to almighty a Thai national passing by helped me...
Thai people are very jovial and friendly.. You shouldn't find much problem. Trust your guts, don't fall for traps, and stay in touch with your family and friends...even if you join a group inform about the person and the group details, place where you're staying etc.. These are general precautions which you would require....
Hv a happy n safe journey

Thailand is safe, if you follow proper precautions and avoid going late at night to isolated places. If you book local tour for sightseeing instead of going on your own it would be much safer and you will able to meet fellow travelers. Make sure to read all the scams and follow the right measures.
Hi lia,
I'll be arriving to Phuket on June 14th. I will be staying in The Patong area. I'll be in China the week before for a work trip, and couldn't pass up a extended trip to Thailand. It was a spontaneously booked trip, but I'm excited for the adventure. If your interested in chatting more message me and maybe we could meet up there.
