Overland trip from Iceland to South Africa

We are looking for more people to join our private expedition,

This forum is pretty hyper about not allowing any self promotion, but wow, what a website and what an incredible trip.

Best of luck finding the right hardy souls to embark on such an adventure.

Have fun!

Cheers,
Terry

Thanks for the info, i just wish i could find a place were we could find the people....every travel forum seems to not want to let people get together like this, its all Advertising Advertising, but we cant afford Advertising ...the price to put a add here is the price of a new tyre.....

any idea were we could post ?

Not really Garry... all travel forums are understandably touchy about their websites being used for outside advertising.

Let me try this... If I wanted to go on an insane overland trip I'd start my research by Googling, "Vikings across Africa" and see if anything came up...

Mods... is that acceptable or should this post be wiped out too...

Cheers,
Terry

Hi
one of the problems would be, how would anyone know to google VIKINGS ACROSS AFRICA...in fact if you google overland trip...its near impossible to find us, unless you do payed google advertising...and i mean 5 usd per click.....that would by a lot of tyres, The only thing google comes up with for overland trips is big company in east africa...driving 2 wheel drive almost buses, no place for small groups like us.

Maybe you need to change your name to include 'Overland' or "Small Group Travel".

Failing costly advertising there is mostly only word of mouth, people writing blogs and reviewing their trips with you on travel sites.

Or link up with a travel agency like Goway. See if they will take you on. Everyone will charge for it though I expect.

Best of luck - it does look amazing.

Hi Garry,

Great website and adventure indeed.
Not a mod in this particular forum, but I guess we do have some rules indeed.
But apart from that, if we let the discussion how it is, people can at least try and find you from here...

Also I've noticed that you are on FB...I think that's the best advertising you can do actually! And you were sold out in 2013, so getting 15 people together should probably work out hopefully.

Awesome adventure, especially because you go down the west. Things have changed though since 2013 in this part of Africa, so keep it safe...

Cheers, have fun and enjoy!
Mike

The thread itself is still here. Interested people can still find you, and post asking for more information (even better: Go right ahead and add a reply with some of the additional information you think people would be most interested in). Then you can follow up by sending them a private message with the URL of your website.
Just getting people to visit your website at their first glimmer of interest is unlikely to be the deciding factor on them signing up or not - getting them to communicate with you early on is imho much more likely to lead to them becoming invested in the idea. (And I'd recommend the same for other forums you post at; find the sweet spot between unwieldy info dump and the far too short blurb you use now; add information about costs, risk mitigation, exact time path and route (with degrees of freedom for deviation), etc - all the basics - and ask people to reply / message you for further details.)

Hi
Thanks for all the positive stuff guys, im going to google "Goway" now, ive found most travel agent sofar will not touch us... a bit to adventurous for them.

I understand people have worrys about travelling out in west Africa now, but Africa is not a place that is ever easy or 100 percent FCO recommended, in fact when we went down in 2013 it was even more dodgy than it is now, Mali had just kicked off, Ivory coast was less than a year out of a civil war and in Guinea there were mass riots in the street,
Our driver is currently working in a NGO in C.A.R. and has spent half his life out in Africa, i think we are very prepared, its just in west/central Africa there is NEVER a right time to travel, just look at your the history books.....ive looked i cant find a single period of 6 months were there was not a single war or disease out break, the important thing is to know what your doing, keeping all eyes open and have a good truck that can take a real rough road detour around bad areas or countries

Hi Gary,

I was just browsing my local library & noticed this book -

-snip-

Looks like it, or something like it, may be of help to you & others in a similar predicament.

Might be worth a read, even for me.

Steve
