When you say Miami I assume you mean Miami Beach.
You aren't going to have any trouble finding something to do there.
In Miami Beach rent some Deco Bikes and ride around Ocean Drive and Lincoln Road. In Miami itself the Metromover and Metrorail are a great way to get around. They also connect to the Tri-Rail train that you could take up to West Palm Beach and visit City Place if Miami gets too crazy.
If things seem too expensive just go west. Generally the further west you go the cheaper things get, but it does turn into suburbs and some industrial areas.
Stay safe and use common sense.
By Miami, I'm sure you're talking about the beach.
In the city area you shouldn't have any trouble, since metrorail is a good way to get around the city.
Metro should be the best option for you.
If you want more suggestions I suggest you be a little more specific...like museums or night life or food.
