Drving Europe?

Any advice on driving around Europe would be appreciated. Aiming to leave In april in a small van

hey nick
you better see this thread http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=58475

you might find this one helpful

Hey what is it you want to know? Me and my boyfriend just spent 2 months in Europe in our campervan. Like you we had never drive in Europe before either it's a terrifying thought but trust me it's not as bad as you think it will be. Make sure you get your euro light stickers for your lights, we aimed to only drive through the day. One thing I will say is road signs are pretty confusing as in if you are looking for somewhere a supermarche for example there will be one sign saying 3rd exit at roundabout then your on your own ha ha

Hey. Havent you commented on my other post as well haha saying you're in france now? where did you leave your van when heading into cities?

Hey I might have done ha we left France at end of jan. Well we just drove into te cities and parked in normal car parks but we didn't have anything to steal in them all our valuables we just took with us. The only time we didn't we just parked up in a camper/moterhome spot. There is absolutely loads we have a book called camper stop tells you them all and addresses

Hey. Which places do you want to see the most?

Tough question, there's so many! I'm keen to go through Scandinavia, I want to head over Austria/ Slovenia/ Croatia too. No real time scale, so there's a big list

hej
I have also travalled in a van for 2 summers, 6months in total.
Since you have already left i see, i suppose you have figgured almost everything out by now.
And every country is different...i only did France.

Just some tips now that i'm posting anyway:
-Check every country whether or not you need a vignet or pay roadtax
-I think mostly all countries speak english well enough, in every citycenter there is a tourist information desk, it could be handy!
-supermarket parkings are often good free parking spots if you want to check the city center for 1 afternoon... and sometimes if there is no 'gate' to close it up, you can spent the night there...
-When at a gas-station fill up an extra 'bottle' of gasoline as an extra safety.
-Going by map or gps? We went with a gps, which was very handy sometimes.
-Put good locks on your doors, dont bring anything that is of too much value
-There are some ways to stay 'for free' with a van, on very nice private spots. In France this is called 'France passion'
you become member for 15€(1 year) and you get a member card an vignet-sticker for your car-window, and a book! with ALL adresses where small campervans are welcome to stay for free...calm and quite.
we tried croatia in august, that was a hell, don't go there in august.

May i ask where you are right now?
Because i'm looking to go to Sweden myself.
I've been looking for some travel buddies, but almost everyone wants to go to france or spain xD
I was going to make a 'new discussion' myself.

Have a safe trip!

Hey! Thanks for your advice. We are currently in helsinki, heading to Tallinn tomorrow. We have been all through scandinavia, sweden is great! It's expensive, but nothing on Norway! There's also lots of opportunities to just pull up and sleep, usually with other vans travelling too. Can help if you have any questions
