has a downloadable PDF with the regions of the country where which crops are picked at which times. I've never done any fruit picking myself, but from what I hear, as long as you show up before the peak time of any one region, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding work there.

Fruit picking is pretty good for casual work here and there, but for something a bit more stable I'd recommend bar work. There are plenty of bars around the place you could go and see, especially ones connected with hostels. There is one in Brisbane city called the 'Down Under Bar' with a hostel joined to it and when I went there last they had plenty of travelers working the bar. There was another fella who was paid to organize the pub crawls.
