Traveling is like second nature to me, I can pack a bag, hop on a train and go really anywhere and I am typically a great travel buddy, with the appropriate coffee in my veins. But Here is the issue, it would be nice to have a travel companion I know, at least once on my travels.

Haha that was a friend from Work, Andrea! No, I recently got engaged, and my fiance is the homebody, we recently discussed honeymoon locations and all of the places he wants to go are within the US, while all of mine are in Africa, Malaysia and depending on the season we decide to go, maybe go to South America and climb Machu Picchu!
My cousin lives in Malaysia for a teach English abroad program called Fulbright, and he is the big world traveler int he family who gets paid to travel. I may have mentioned him before!
I've tried to get all my friends to come away with me but I've not had much joy. Travelling for me is a way for me to loose myself, a new language, environment, an uneasy out of comfort situation where I need to think about how to exist.
The only time I truly found myself is when I was the most lost. Some of us dare go outside, others into space, while some of us are ok with looking out the window, I just suppose it's down to how much your willing to grow as a person, we only really evolve when we broaden our horizons

I can't imagine a worse situation than having a travel buddy who wasn't into it - but who's also a personal friend so if they couldn't handle it I couldn't just dump them and continue on. I honestly don't get why having a travel buddy is so important that anyone would risk this potentially disastrous situation.
Are people really that afraid to travel solo, or that fearful of not meeting fellow travellers to hang out with?

No offence SpaceCowboy - everyone has a different definition of the perfect travel experience - but in my opinion, "Happiness is only real when shared" is a sad state of affairs. For me happiness never depends on the presence of other people.
To each their own though, of course. Thank God we don't all travel the same way... what a boring world that would be!

The idea of having someone you trust to keep an eye on your stuff goes miles. It is that comfort zone, and safety net that is always good to have! In the beginning it is nerve wracking to travel alone, but fro my experience after the at firstweek of relizing that you can trave by yourself, then you get the hang of things. But Always nice to have someone!
As I said above, to each their own. Thank God we don't all travel the same way... what a boring world that would be.
