The approved free-tours are with Saigonhotpot (Saigon) and Hanoikids (Hanoi) - you should reserve a tour with them several weeks in advance (no tipping, but the client does pay for lunch and taxi)
I'm sure the offer from Hung is legit, but tourists should be wary of possible scams everywhere in SE Asia.

Yes, be careful with "free tours" as they can regularly be covers for scams.
the poor guy probably just wants to sincerely learn english. but we can't help being skeptical because of the tour scams that roam around. yes i agree for the pointers that Daawgon said.
Well, I didn't expect this. At first, it's my bad to not read the forum rules carefully. However, I dont think scam is regular that much in SE Asia. Actually, there are some street vendors try to take advances to tourists in Vietnam, but not everyone. Moreover, we can find the information of anyone on the Internet nowadays, or if we are still doubt about the information from the Internet, we can meet first, and then It's not late for refusing, right. Do you think its worth to try?
