Planning a trip from Thailand-Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia-Thailand-Malaysia for two months from September. Potentially go to Sydney from here! Whos with me? Could do with a buddy freaking out about travelling alone. Im 27 years old female xx
There are several posts for "woman traveling alone" or "solo female traveler" on this forum already. Do a forum search and look some over. Perhaps one of those women will be in Thailand the same time you are. (Forum searches usually easier to read on a computer device with a screen larger than a smart phone.)
Some cultures see a woman traveling alone as a woman looking for a date! Be prepared for some posts from guys who want to meet up with you or visit with you in your hotel room, etc. You might be safer meeting some people in a public and more secure area and not give a lot of personal information (hotel, real name and room number) for people you do not first screen.
Five Asian countries, each with different immigration requirements. Understand what the requirements are for each country. Some countries require a visa you pay for like Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. For Thailand you may have to produce a plane ticket showing a flight out of Thailand if you plan to enter on the free Visa Exemption stamp you get at the airport. (Depends on if this is enforced at your airport or not.)
If you intend to use debit or credit cards on your holiday make sure you let your banks know that you will be using their cards overseas or any ATM withdrawals for cash could be blocked. Don't rely on a single credit or debit card because that card could be stolen or damaged. Don't leave Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos with their currency - no one else wants to change it in a different country. You might want to check with your doctor to see if you will benefit from some inoculations.
TravBuddy Forum might have some information for friends to travel with too. You can still have a good time doing the trip on your own too. You should plan out a budget to see how much you can afford for hotels each day. Then you can ask for hotel help in that price range. (Some old posts have hotel help.)
Check the weather patterns for the time you will be in this part of Asia. Tourists do visit during the rainy season. For most countries when rainy season you do get some bouts of sunshine even when only rain shows on the forecast. Sometimes no rain for days, etc. Plant life looks more alive during the rainy season.
Do a forum search. Even a Google search is good too for basic information you need quickly. Some results should be verified though. Always Google up scams to avoid in each country too.
