Buses to certain destinations, such as Berat and Shkoder, leave from different places around Tirana. You'll have to ask. Your hotel, or taxi drivers, will know where the buses leave from. An Albanian couple who spoke English showed me where to catch the bus to Shkoder. It was on a street, not at a bus station.
How did you go with the bus travel through Albania? We are travelling though there in a week or so, getting a bus from Shkoder to Tirana, then to Kamabaka in Greece. I would be interested in hearing how you went.
I took buses; and asked at the hotel where I was staying where I had to go. They arranged for a taxi to take me there. You should have no problems. Just ask. If you're really concerned, go a day or two ahead to find the exact place where you need to go to catch your bus; and check the schedules. Sometimes, particularly with minibuses, they need to get enough riders before they go. So keep that in mind. Hope this helps.

I have previously spent several months in Albania and absolutely love it!! Yes, you can get buses around Albania; however, it can sometimes be a challenge. Go with a relaxed attitude and be prepared to be patient. Be ready to face delays, break-downs and hard-to-find 'bus stations'. See it as all part of the adventure rather than something to get upset about. Compared to other countries, bussing around Albania can seem a very haphazard, unorganised mess. There are generally not clear bus stations, but rather spots on the street to wait and jump on...or parking areas that look like used car yards... As has been suggested, just ask around and you will find help...the Albanian people are very welcoming and friendly. Be aware that you don't buy tickets beforehand or even pay before you get on the bus...just jump on, find a seat and at some point someone will come around (no uniform or anything so sometimes they just appear to be a random person asking for money) asking where you are travelling to and collecting your money. The buses in Albania are generally very old and break-downs occur. It seems to me that once Germany are finished with their buses...they give them to Bosnia...then once Bosnia decides they are too old and crappy, they give them to Albania. The roads are not in the greatest condition so travel is slow. Again I say...enjoy the overall adventure rather than getting perturbed by delays etc.
