Traveling Australia alone February 2016 helpppppp

Hi guys,
I'm 22 from the uk and I'm flying out to melbourne on the 26th of february 2016, majorly excited but also majorly terrifed! My main plan of action is to explore for about a month then settle in to do my 3 months of fruit picking, can anyone give me details of good destinations for this, good hostels & any general tips & information.
All help is welcomed! Would also be amazing to hear from anyone there around the same time?
Thanks in advance
X

I'm going to Australia in October go then?

Hi! I arrived in Australia 4 month ago. about the hostel, I advice you to found it in a center city because you can meet more people and so you have more information about the place. But probably they are more expensive.
About the farm I think is better the QLD because there are a lot of farm there.
You can check in this site to have an idea.

Be careful with the fruit picking.

Recent documentaries on our TVs showing that agencies are employing overseas workers and ripping them off and often times, not even paying them.

Things are not what they used to be in the country.

I would recommend you learn barrista skills and waitressing. You still have to be careful about not being taken advantage of, however you would be dealing direct with the owner/manager.

But good luck, anyway.

Hi Gypsie Rose. I wanna tell you that from yesterday (1 september 2015) it's not longer possible do woofing (work for free in exchange for the days required to extend the visa) because the government made a law about that.
Anyway is better be careful, I advice of not working for less of 15 $ at hour.

Hey! I'm going to Australia in April 2016, I'm landing in Sydney and plan on doing a working holiday for a year. Let me know if you're going to be in the area and we could job hunt together!

Pops x

Hi Pops
Now I 'm near Darwin in Northern Territory, but when I will finish the 88 days in a farm, I wanna go In sydney. But the problem is I'll leave Australia at 19 April because my visa expires in that date.
When do you wanna come in Australia precisely?

could you plz tell me i so worried because now a days Australian student visa ratio is very less for Pakistani people why ?
as well as visa processing system is also very slow
could you plz tell me why ?

I live in Aus and Far North Queensland is big for backpacker work in the banana industrie as well as other fruits Innisfail, Mareeba and Tully are good places to look for work as these are hubs for accomodation and transport

Hi RachelNug93,

It is scary going somewhere that far away from home but the experience is life changing and once you're there you'll love it so much that you won't be terrified any more!

I went over as part of a gap year internships programme and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Being out of your comfort zone and exploring things on your own gives you a real sense of 'I can do it on my own' and that feeling stays with you. It did for me anyway :-)

I haven't heard any bad stories about fruit picking myself but there are loads of ways to get a job out there and keep yourself afloat. Teaching, freelance online work, working in a resort, etc. I found this article really helpful when I was looking in to planning my trip: http://www.wanderingearl.com/42-ways-you-can-make-money-and-travel-the-world/.

I think the safest way is to go on a programme though, so if you're worried it might be worth looking in to. It takes the hassle out of everything as well. There are some great packages available now, so you can find one to suit your budget, like here: http://www.bunac.org/uk/intern-abroad.

As long as you have something lined up though, like your fruit picking, then you can keep looking for work while you're over there.
