Must it be a direct flight or are you willing to make changes?
It can be done a lot cheaper.
I really prefer direct flights. First I saw them at $1100 and now it's ridiculous, it went up to $1600. Even if I fly direct I know that I am missing two days in traveling and I know if I connect I will probably lose more time.
OK.
It's a long shot then, but going via the UK you could do it with 2 changes. One in London and another in Kuala Lumpur.
Still, if you prefer direct, then it doesn't look like there are any real cheap ways of doing it.

I looked at your selection on Korean Air's website.
Nothing as cheap as that. The best price is $981 + card fee. Actually over $1,000
Where can you see $849?
