This is probably not much help, but I would recommend bringing it with you.
If you did need to see a doctor to get it they would probably charge you well over the odds. There's loads of clinics in places like Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Phi Phi, and this is obviously because they know they can make so much money out of tourists.
really? I went to the docs on Koh Lanta and they were quite cheap. Cheaper than seeing one in Australia.
Just trying to save money hoping you can get it over the counter without seeing a doctor. You can get plenty of other stuff over the counter.
Thai hospitals, doctors, and medications are ridiculously cheap.
Unfortunately, I don't know about that specific brand.
Doctors in Koh Phi Phi and koh Pha Ngan are definitley not cheap. A friend jumped off a podium and cut his foot and he got charged 3000 Baht to get it cleaned up. £60 for a half hour's work (although the exchange rate was better at the time so it was only £50 at the time) is a massive amount to earn by Thai standards.
And it's similar in Koh Phi Phi. A guy I met stood on some metal and cut his foot and he got charged 2500 Baht to get it cleaned up. Then when he went back to get the dressing changed they did loads of extra stuff (which he specifically asked them not to do) and he got hit with another expensive bill. So he's started changing the dressing himself now.
I also know of a girl who was getting an injury attended to and when she asked how much it would cost they were all 'Don't worry. No problem,' so she assumed they were doing it as a favour, but then at the end they charged her 900 Baht. Less than £20 so not a great deal, but why imply that you're doing a favour when you're blatantly not?
So I would definitely negotiate a price before getting any injuries attended to in Koh Pha Ngan or Koh Phi Phi.
Just to redress the balance, another mate got really drunk in Haad Rin one night and woke up the next morning in the Thai hospital up near Thong Sala. And they only charged her 600 Baht which was good value for a night in hospital I thought. The hospital she woke up in though, was the hospital that Thai people use - backpackers would generally end up in the overpriced clinics in Haad Rin, so she lucky.
An also to further redress the balance, I know when I've bought ventolin inhalers at chemists in Thailand they are about half the price of a prescription back home, so the chemists in Thailand are fairly reasonable compared to the price of medecines back home. But if you need to see a doctor or go to a clinic then I would totally recommend negotiating a price before you agree to let them treat you.
Yeah definately wont be going to those doctors by choice.
I saw you can get ventalin over the counter. Hoping they also have seretide. I should have checked while i was there!
To be safe, bring medication with you.
If you are interested, I suggest you look into the Buteyko breathing technique. You can minimize asthma attacks, and the need for medication.
