Heyyy, Im going to Australia in June and want to go somewhere cheap and hot before hand, for around 5 weeks. I basically want somewhere hot thats going to be cheap for the 5 weeks, nice value for money place to stay. I have been to Thailand before but was looking at Islands I havent been to such as Koh Lanta or Koh Toa, Im going alone just to relax and get away from the stress of home!
Hi,
I would suggest Thailand and the islands are just awesome to chillout . Kho Lanta is a quiet a place and good to relax. Nothing much to see and do but just relax or do a day trip to other island. You can hire a scooter and ride from one end to another of the island. There is an awesome beach and a lighthouse with great views at the end of island but its a rough ride to get there on a scooter. If you hire abike then you can stop along the lovely secluded beaches too and chillout. Prices depend on the season but its always best to bargain and may be book 1 night inadvance ans then look around when you get there.
So when are you arriving to sydney and if you need any info and wanna catch up le tme know. Hope this info helps...
cheers
john
Apart from fine beaches and sea, Bali doesn't have much else. Even then, Bali, in those regards, is still lagging behind Thailand. I like Bali a lot but it doesn't have anything on Thailand. Thailand has more to offer for the dollar - better value for money for sure.

Hello??? Ever rented a motobike in Bali?
I haven't seen a beach or sea in Bali (apart from Padangbai), and I've had a marvellous time on this island!!

Different people Different view
plus Bali is a little bit more expensive than Thailand.

Not when we were there... we have been to both Indonesia and Thailand several times over the last 3 years of our travels and every time Indonesia worked out far cheaper than Thailand. Indonesia is very cheap and with 5 weeks the OP could do a leisurely travel through Java (Yogyakarta, Mt Bromo), overland to Bali and then go to the Gili islands - great beaches with snorkelling and good cheap food and drink. The problem at the moment with Thailand for British people is the exchange rate - 50 baht to £1...18 months ago it was close to 70 baht to £1!

IS THAT A JOKE???
I doubt that you have ever been there.
1. The beaches aon Bali aren't very good
2. The sea isn't very impressive.
3. Bali has from a culture point of view much more to offer than whole Thailand
4. The costs are still low. Indonesia is cheaper than Thailand for Travellers (for living it is more expensive)
For relax, great food and beach - go to Thailand
For culture - go to Bali
For an adventure - go to one of the other islands in Indonesia. Thailand is the Majorca of the winter. even my grandma spends months there. The only adventure you can get is a sexuall one (also possible in Indonesia).

I agree with Yvekes - the only time I went on a beach in Bali was to walk to the fishing boat to go out and do some snorkelling for a couple of hours. There is loads of culture, sightseeing and walking on offer in Bali; I'd love to go back as I didn't get to see everything the first time.
Like Loubylou, I found Bali (and Indonesia overall) cheaper than Thailand.

Indonesia gets my vote. It is cheaper than Thailand and is a lot more varied in what you can see and do. It has more spectacular landscapes, more wildlife and just generally offers a lot more than Thailand. As well as Bali, you can see Java, Lombok, head to Flores. If you want to spend a bit more you can head off into the wilds of Papua too. My own personal opinion is that Indonesia offers a much more rewarding travel experience.
Hi,
Bali is NOT all Indonesia. Loads of other islands to explore.
You could see the higlights of a couple of islands like Java and West Sumatra or North Sumatra in 5 weeks.
Send me a PM and your email address and I can some maps and interesting links for yuo to read up on.
Pamela.
