Wanaka - 3 days too long?

Hi

Wanaka is a lovely place but you're right - theres not too much to do there. Do check out Puzzle World though, its pretty cool. Maybe spend a couple of days there, then you could spend a day in historic Arrowtown, or in Cromwell? Theres a lot of awesome scenery in the Central Otago area, so whatever combo you go for I'm sure you'll enjoy it! I live in Invercargill btw

Wanaka is very pretty but I agree with heymonkee that 3 days is too long. Puzzle world is fun so is worth a stop. As you are heading down to Invercargill and you like walking, you could consider going over to Stewart Island. It's beautiful and there are some lovely walks possible there. Also as you are passing through Nelson, don't miss Abel Tasman national park as it's stunning- a great place for walking and kayaking. It's a couple of hours from Nelson.

If you are into snow sports - snowboarding, skiing etc - then 3 days is perfect. You'll find the snow fields are better and less crowded in Wanaka than near Queenstown. At the end of the day the two aren't far from each other though so you can see most sights from either place. There's plenty of adventure activities in both places if you're into that kind of thing...
