What is appropriate to wear in Europe?

Hi everyone, this may seem like a silly question but Im quite clueless... I have been told that there are restrictions as to what clothes are suitable to be worn in different countries. I am a fan on stubbies (short shorts) but would hate to offend anyone by wearing them. I am going to Singapore, London, France, Switzerland, Italy, Vatican City, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Florence, and Barcelona.

I think for general attractions, it's okay. For Barcelona and Vatican city, if you are going to visit the Cathedrals or the Vatican museum, there are different dress code required (I think they post it on their web site). They specifically say that you will not be allowed to come in if you don't meet certain requirements (shoulders have to be covered, skirt and shorts should not be too short ...) Read the dress code description for each place.

Short shorts are widely accepted in Europe...but make sure you have a tan first as it looks better...

Men wearing shorts will not be permitted into Spanish or Italian cathedrals in most cases. You are expected, as a male, to remove any headwear before entering places of worship in just about every country.
Albania sometimes has rules on shorts in good quality restaurants.
Many hotels in Singapore will look down on you if you're not following their dress code. Just ask at reception as to the do's or don'ts. They're a very friendly bunch and won't give you a hard time over it, but respect is the name of the game.

No mention of sarongs then? Thought the girls here recommended them.

over the shorts that is.

Keep in mind that short shorts can attract a lot of male attention, especially in Italy, Spain and Greece. Guys will hit on cute girls no matter what they wear but what signals do especially short shorts send a guy?

Thanks for the advice everyone

Didn´t know that. I acually went to an Italian cathedral wearing shorts and tank-top last time I was in Italy, nobody said anything to be. However, it was extremely hot that summer.... But offcourse I removed my cap when I entered.
