Well I think you want to opt for a cheap place but having more tourists so as to get some companion for you. Well if balanced is to be kept in both requirements then I would definitely go with Phuket as Its having more attraction than Krabi and also more tourists so would be easy to find the companions to be with. Also as far as the expenses are considered then also you ca get cheap stay in Phuket as well.
Hey wsfl_, Ive been to both Krabi and Phuket. Persoanlly I preferred Krabi but I went with my (ex)girlfriend and it was very quiet. I wouldn't really go there on my own. I think Phuket is a better option, you could get the boat to Phi Phi from there too where you would definitely meet a lot of people

I vote you head over to . Phuket is full of packaged tourists from Europe. Crowded and expensive. Krabi has many places to stay at low rates and easy access to the beaches. You can day trip , or Other beaches as well.
I would stay in Krabi town and day trip some of the beaches. Move if you like one and find a room in your budget. is a recommended place to stay. is another.You will meet others right at your GH or on the taxi/boat to the beaches. Good luck to you.

thanks guys for the opinions. i'm still can't decide which one to choose from.
i really like krabi as it is a very accessible base, as the bus ride to surat thani isnt that long compared to phuket.
but i'm scared if i were to go krabi on april, i will be alone........
well i know where to stay in phuket, but in krabi,should i stay in tonsai area or the more populated ao nang??
Definitely Krabi. I didn't rate Phuket at all, and it is overpriced! I'm in Krabi Town right now, staying at a hostel called Pak Up. 200B / night and really smart.
Also, I would never worry about having problems meeting people! Whereever you are in the world, at whatever time, if you stay in a hostel you will easily meet like-minded people to keep you company!
