Although I've been warned of the early booking for the Inca Trail, I still procrastinated till now and realized that I basically screwed myself over. Im planning to do the short trek on May 17th-19th and of course the majority of the e-mails I received from tour agencies is that those dates were not available. Sigh! However I finally got an e-mail back from a company saying that they had space . It will be my girlfriend and I and the price is $400 pp HOWEVER if we get more people in our group the price will be cheaper.
US$ 400 pp ( 2- 3 person )
350 pp ( 4- 6 person )
300 pp ( 7- 8 person )
So If there is anyone else out there that decided to wait last minute and can not find a permit and would like to form a group, please contact me and let me know ASAP!

Are you sure there are spaces left for may 17? I saw at the government webpage machupicchu.gob.pe "consultas option" in "centro arqueologico" choose "CAMINO INKA" option and choose the "mes" MAYO there you'll see the spaces left for may 17.
I have seen there are spaces just for may 12 and 31st.
So I recommend you be sure about what tour they are offering you.
May that can be scam.
For may you must book as least 6 months before the trek.

Yeah I am hoping it is a legit agency. Hmm maybe I'll address the government webpage with him. This is part of the e-mail I received from the agency.

put this way, i know people inside of the goberment and they owe me few favors, and with few extra dollars they can get me entrance fee for the short Inca trail for any date, but only the short Inca trail, that is why I can guarantee the short inca trail than enyone else
I am serios about this, I gurantee tour Short Inca trail any date,
as I told you i will scan a copy of you permit and sended to you, to in sure that your departure is gurantee.
however after speaking to everyone else, I think I prefer going the safer way and booking another trek. Looking into the inca trail via llactapata which looks really cool
