Upcoming trip to the Southwest

I have been to the Bay Area, LA, and Vegas before, but ive never enjoyed the actual desert wonders of America. All my life on the east coast I finally take my own pleasure trip to the west coast again. I love everything about the west as its almost another country. The people, the vibe and the atmosphere. From fast food joints such as Carls Jr, Jack in the Box, In n out Burger to the vast flat open atmosphere. Little did i know that reading a small article about the grand canyon would actually turn into a full out trip. I am beyond excited.

You seem to have missed Death Valley. The views at Zabriskie Point in particular were my favourite. Assuming this desert trip is not in summer though. I wasn't there in summer. I think it would be too hot for my liking! Was toasty enough in spring

Anthony,
Do not miss Antelope Canyon near Page AZ. Worth your time/money IMO. covers our day there. Utah has so many parks. Go North of MV and hit: Canyonlands, Arches, Capitol Reef, Bryce, Zion. If you like the Indian Culture, hit Canyon de Chelly after Petrified Forest. Good luck with your planning.

Thank you guys. I will be going end of Feb to avoid brutal mid summer heat. Utah surely does have a lot of parks however i didnt know this until i made my short trip commitments in flagstaff. My short trip up to Monument valley should be good enough for me though. And i wasnt too sure if it was a specific park to see the mittens but now that i saw your blog i know where to go. Thank you

Skip Grand Canyon West (fake canyon) and see the true Grand Canyon at either the north or south rim. When going up to Monument Valley, stop near Page and visit the south part of Lake Powell--(and consider taking a boat to the Rainbow Bridge). Take VegasMike6's advice and go north to Moab, Utah (where on the way are Canyonlands and just north is Arches National Park--and which allows you to circle around to Capitol Reef, Bryce, and Zion).

Moab is a great place to do bicycle rides, hike or just enjoy the vast expanses of desert and red rock canyons.
