How safe is Phnom Penh and Siem Reap? Have 2 days in each city. Any suggestions on what to do or not do or general advise much appreciated. Leaving next week. G3

Lets start with Phnom Penh, you could lose a whole day checking out the killing fields of Choeung Ek and the Tuol Sleug museum, quite morbid but a very sobering experience. Another few hours should be spent at the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda.
Also i always say check out the Heart of Darkness nightclub for an insight into Khymer business, (usually people are told to avoid this place, however i have been 3 times and never encountered any problems, perhaps go in a group).
As to safety issues, i dont find PP any worse than say Bangkok, use common sense and you'll be fine.
In Siem Reap, my obvious advice is Ankor Wat, go early in the morning and a whole day there is enough, the next day just kick back and meander around the town (you'll probably be shattered Anyway).
I did find the touts around the bus stop amoungst the most annoying in Asia in SR, however keep smiling and walking (a good idea to have somewhere in mind when you arrive). That said you can always just grab one to take you to a gueat house and at most you'll spend a couple more dollars-your call. As with everywhere else use common sense.

Phnom Penh is fairly safe, but like anywhere else keep your head, stick to main streets at night and don't flash valuables. If you are going somewhere really off the beaten path or into a neighborhood you aren't sure of - pay the extra few bucks for a tuk tuk and the driver will happily wait for you and make sure to take you home. usually they'll do it at no charge save for their taxi fee.
you can usually find some of the reputable drivers in front of the FCC many of who the staff at the club can vouch for.
Just came back from siem reap. Love the quaintness. There are plenty to see and do there. Try going to kampung pluk for sunset, where they will take you on about to the largest lake is SEA. Take the smal tour, the three major ruins in siem reap. Don't try to too moo much temples at you would get an overdose of temples and ruins.
By the way, I stayed at the pool and palm villa. Excellent pool and the staff are simply top notch.
Besides the above ideas you can also look into taking a ferry up to Siem Reap. You get to see some of the villages looking from the river. The ferry makes stops along the way like a bus would.

When I went to Phnom Penh we just got told to make sure we wore our bags across our bodies, or just dont take them out at all at night.
I would advise the trips that everyone has already mentioned. But in Siem Reap theres really cool bar/clubs such as Temple Bar, Angkor Wat? We had some great times there. Also In Phnom Penh I stayed in a hostel called Hostel Nomads which was basic but we really really liked it. The guy that owns it is really nice. In Siem Reap we stayed in the Siem Reap Hostel which was great - met some great people and it has a pool
